User-Led Organisations

The Government’s Putting People First agenda for transforming adult social care requires all local authorities to support at least one user-led organisation to ensure that disabled people have a collective voice to influence policy and provision. We can provide:

  • Research and consultation to support and inform the development of a user-led organisation
  • Support to capacity-build a user-led organisation
  • Support to write and submit funding bids

Here are some examples of recent work:

  • Lancashire County Council and Central Lancashire PCT
(in partnership with Northwest Training and Development Team)
We conducted a review of current investment in advocacy arrangements for Central Lancashire Learning Disability Commissioning Team and investigated whether there was support amongst people with learning difficulties for the development of their own user-led self advocacy organisation. This research will lead to a user-led organisation being commissioned to develop a Central Lancashire People First.
  • Wrexham County Borough Council
    (in partnership with Breakthrough UK)
We conducted research with stakeholders around a proposal to develop a Centre for Independent Living in Wrexham. This led to a series of capacity building workshops for the Direct Payments User Group.
  • Capacity-building Workshops
(in partnership with Step by Step Living Network, Northwest Training and Development Team, Breakthrough UK and Preston DISC)
We ran a series of workshops across the north-west exploring key issues for strategic planning to develop local user-led organisations.
  • Step-by-Step Living Network
We conducted a review to investigate how Step by Step can become a user-led organisation.
